What does it mean to have faith? Jesus said if we have the faith of a mustard see we can move mountains. Do you want to move mountains? Do you have mountains you need moved? I know I sure do. I always seem to have a mountain in the way. I have learned a lot about faith over the years. I still have my moments of struggle, too. Yet, through the word of God I have learned to never give up on faith.
I know it’s not always easy. I know our minds can be our own worst enemies. I know our eyes can deceives and fear can get it’s icy grip around our stomachs and start to make us sink to despair. But I also know we are told to have faith by Jesus. And, if he told us to do it than it has to be the right thing. I know through faith we can come to find the peace and comfort that comes through the unfailing love of God. Psalm 33:18-19 tells us the Lord’s eyes are on those how both fear him and whose hope is in his unfailing love.
18 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, 19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
Psalm 33:18-19 New International Version (NIV)
Faith is trust that God will not let us down. It’s practically applying the words of the Bible to our lives. Not to have faith is to doubt the creator of everything. Sometimes it is a matter of setting out minds to it and having the stubbornness of a toddler and refusing to give in to any thought that would put our faith in question. Faith pleases God.
Faith requires we read our Bibles. We need to be constantly edified, lest we let the negative words of the world bring us down. How many of you can say that all of your friends and family are 100% positive and never try to discourage you or bring you down? I know, none of us can say that. But, we have one place to go for such support, and that is the Bible. Let it come alive. I am an avid reader, I love novels. When I sit down with the Bible I get lost in the stories, they come alive and they are way more compelling because they are true.
I have seen miracle in my life, many. Yet, even I struggle it’s faith sometimes. Life can be tough. It can poop on our parades. That is also why we need to find a support group. Find a church to belong to and go to it regularly. Have your faith fed.
We need to stand on the promises of the Bible, mediate on them, speak them daily.
Don’t doubt God. Let your inner stubbornness take control and refuse to give into doubt. Hold on to it like a 3 year old refusing to leave a store without the new toy they found. When the devil tries to get you to falter remember the words of Winston Churchill:
Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never–in nothing, great or small, large or petty–never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.
Speak the words of the Holy Bible, holdon to your faith and Parise the Lord for his Goodness and place your hope in his unfailing love.
4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
1 John 4:4 New International Version (NIV)
