The importance of taking time for God daily
What happens if you skip a mean? do you get hangry? No yourself when you’re hungry? What about if your thirsty and don’t quench it??? Hmmm…It’s easy to satisfy our physical needs. We often overlook our spiritual needs. We don’t take time to refill our reservoir. It gets overlooked and then we suffer the consequences.
Just like not being yourself when you’re hungry, your not yourself without God. You get weak, susceptible to the enemy, to fear, doubt, anger and so on.
Build Your Relationship
If you’re not spending time in the word chances are you’re relationship with Jesus is also not getting a lot of time. Without putting time into a relationship it can’t grow, you can’t really get to know the other person, in this case, our savior. Spending time I the word of God gives you the knowledge of how he is and what he promises.
Reading the Bible invites God into your life. It gives you wisdom to make wise decisions, it gives teaches of His unfailing love. Spending time in the word is spending time with God. You know how you feel when you’re significant other or your child wants to spend time with you? How do you think it makes God feel when we want to spend time with him? How about when we say we’re too busy?
It Gives You the Tools You Need to Overcome the Enemy
As children of God we are targets of the enemy. Not to mention just the regular stressors of daily life. If your not reading your Bible you’re not equipped with the tools to fight of spiritual attacks. You need to read the word. When Jesus was tempted by the devil he replied “it is written” and He quoted the word. It was by the word that the world was created. Thee is power in the word and if you’re not reading it you don’t know what it is.
You need God’s presence in your life
How much are you praying? Spending time in prayer is also how we get close to God and let his presence in our lives. Prayer moves mountains. Prayer brings us close to God. When you’re praying and reading the word you are developing a personal relationship and you are equipping yourself with the word.
The word tells us to put on the armor of God. Do you know where that verse is, do you know what the armor is?
You need to know what the Bible says so when the enemy comes at you you can through the word of God in his face.
You need to know the word of God so when you are tempted you can resist. When you are sad you can find comfort. When you don’t know what to do you can find guidance.
If you’re not spending time with God I prayer and in the word you’re going to find yourself making decisions you shouldn’t, falling for the wrong influences. I know I did. One day I woke up and thought “how did I end up here?” I was in a bad spot and it was because I stopped spending time with God
The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Find the Time For God
So, grab that extra large cup of coffee and figure out time. I’d suggest starting your day with God. You never know what is going to happen, but starting out the day with some faith.
I was going through an incredibly hard time in my life. My faith and relationship with God had declined over the years, it wasn’t what it used to be. However, I started reading devotional, and adding more time for God in my life. I held onto his love and promises. I let the the word of God soothe my fears. It wasn’t done smoothly, I still struggled, yet, I knew in my heart God was in control. The more I read the more I had peace.
Peace is something we need just as much as food. We need the peace that only God can give because we have turned our struggles over to him and have faith he will not let us down.
