Fear of man is a snare
The Bible tells us in Proverbs 29:25, “The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.”
Let’s take closer look at that.
Fear of Man
Fear of man can be fear of what your friends, family, or co-workers may think of you. It can be fear of being rejected, ostracized, or other persecutions. It can be fear of physical harm from strangers. It can be fear from a partner. It can be fear that if we live according to the word we won’t achieve success in our chosen field.
What can fear of man do
Lose Sight if His Promises
Fear of man first and foremost takes our eyes off of God and puts it on man. This elevates man over God. Now, does that sound like a good idea? No, in case you’re wondering. Fear of man causes us to lose sight of the promises we have in God. Promises to protect us, deliver us, provide for us. Fear of man is the opposite of faith in God. We please God with our faith, what do you think we do when we replace that faith with fear of a mortal being? Why place a mortal over the creator?
It Causes Anxiety
When we turn to fear our hearts become troubled. We begin to worry and think of all the negative scenarios our minds can dream up. Our bodies can suffer from stomach ailments, headaches, and other physical afflictions. We lose our peace and gain anxiety. We stroll right over to the enemies camp, pull out a chair and start drinking his kool-aid.
Steals Our Joy
Have you ever been around someone who could it enjoy anything? They seriously have some issue or worry about any activity. These people have no joy because they only see harm at every turn, and don’t try new things because of fear. Furthermore, they also try to stop others from doing new things because of their fear. Having fear steals all happiness because how can you be happy if you think something bad is going to happen. There is actually a real phobia called cherophobia, which is the fear of being happy. How tragic!
What is a Snare?
Here is the definition of Snare from Merriam-Webstrer’s dictionary
: a contrivance often consisting of a noose for entangling birds or mammals
: something by which one is entangled, involved in difficulties, or impeded
: something deceptively attractive
Fear of Man is a Trap
Fear ensures us. It’s like a noose, it impedes us from our destiny, it entangles us in anxiety, it causes difficulty in life and it can be deceptively attractive. How can it be attractive?
Fear can hide itself in being cautious. It can seem as if you are avoiding trouble, or thinking about the future. It can also hides itself under the term of wisdom. People might say they are being wise in not taking chances by going after their dream. Wise in not causing controversy be not speaking up. Being prudent.
God’s Love casts out fear
Let’s look at 1 John 4:18, “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”
Nothing can separate us from Gods’s love. However, fear can cause us not to see that love. God’s love is so great that He has a plan for your life. Jeri Ian 29:11 tell us, “
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
When you love someone do you hurt them? Do you stand by and allow someone else to harm them? No! How much more so will God defend and protect his believed? If you are struggling with fear take a moment to lay down and just reflect on the love of God. Meditate on His love for you. Let yourself feel loved.
Jesus us rescued us from fear of the world because he has already overcome the world. Yes, we may have troubles, it through our faith in God and standing on his promises we will have the victory and Jesus will lead us triumphantly through our troubles.
Below are some verse to stand on when you face fear. I’ll be addressing this topic all month so stay tuned. Finally, remember what 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
